Oalex Anderson gave the Lights the lead, but New Mexico struck twice in key moments to steal three points from Cashman Field
Las Vegas Lights FC lost 2-1 to New Mexico United at Cashman Field on Saturday night.
The Lights took the lead in the 29th minute through Vincentian striker Oalex Anderson. New Mexico United goalkeeper Kris Shakes turned over the ball to Anderson, who shot from a tight angle to score his eighth goal of the season.
New Mexico United tied things up in the 34th minute after team captain Greg Hurst took advantage of a series of rebounds inside the box.
The visitors sealed the deal in the 79th minute of action following a Kipp Keller header that hovered past goalkeeper Triston Henry.
Vegas ramped up their attacking efforts towards the end of the match, but they were futile. The match ended in a 2-1 victory for New Mexico.
The Lights will now travel to California to play Orange County SC at Championship Soccer Stadium on Saturday, September 12.

Disappointed. We can’t lose and drop points at home, especially late in the season. Just disappointed.
On what the team does from this point onward with tough games ahead…
We’ve got to keep fighting, we’ve got to keep digging, we’ve got to find a way to bounce back. It’s going to come down the very end of the season, we know that, but we’ve got to find a way to pick up points. So, we’ve just got to stick to what we do and and fight on.
On what he needs to see against Orange County to get a result…
Yeah, we need to be the aggressor. We need to go to get three points. We can’t give up cheap goals or lackadaisical goals or set piece goals. And then we’ve got to find a way to get a win.

On his overall thoughts…
I think reflecting, we’re not playing as bad as the results are. At the end of the day, this game is about getting results and getting points, and we’re not doing that right now. Luckily, we still have games. But we’re really close to the playoffs, and at the end of the day, we know that getting into the playoffs is the most important. And obviously we’re creating chances. We need to put them in the back of the net and also get scored on less goals. So I think we just need to work as a team and keep growing.
On the mentality going against Orange County…
I think from now on it’s a final. Every game that we play, I think we have seven games left, and the point is to get 21 points, hopefully, and that’ll put us into the playoffs. But like I said, our first goal is to get into the playoffs.
