The Lights once again suffered a rough defeat at the hands of a very efficient Sacramento Republic side.

Las Vegas Lights FC once more lost by a wide margin against Sacramento Republic FC, this time for the USL Jägermeister Cup.
Two goals in two minutes during the first half were enough for Sacramento to seize control over a very confused Vegas side that never recovered from finding itself at a significant disadvantage so quickly. Despite keeping the majority of possession and out-shooting Sacramento, the Lights never posed a threat against a Sacramento side that capitalized on every opportunity they earned.
Two more goals in the second half from Michelle Benitez and Russell Cicerone would seal the deal for Sacramento, who are now Group 1 leaders by goal differential over Las Vegas.
The Lights will now have to win against USL League One side Spokane Velocity FC and await other results to quality for the knockout rounds of the USL Jägermeister Cup.
What They’re Saying
FORWARD JOE GYAU
On why the team struggled against Sacramento…
They’re a good team and they’ve got a good game plan, but we also had a good game plan as well. We started off well, it was a level match. I would say we even had better chances than them – we had clear chances. They’re clinical, they’ve got some experience, they’ve got some good guys, they’re just lethal in front of the net that’s something that we did not do today. We just didn’t do well enough finishing.
On looking forward to the next match and what needs to change…
For the next game we just have to keep moving forward and stay connected as a group. Try to focus going forward and try to finish our chances as best as we can. We have to try and put this behind us, we can’t keep dwelling on this one even though we haven’t had the best results these last couple weeks, but we move on it’s our only choice.
