Las Vegas Lights FC will enter the 2025 U.S. Open Cup in the Third Round against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC of USL League One. The single-elimination match will take place on Wednesday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Cashman Field.

All U.S. Open Cup matches are also streaming live on Paramount+. Throughout the tournament, select matches will simulcast on CBS Sports Network and CBS Sports Golazo Network.
The April 16 Third Round match between the Lights and the Red Wolves will be broadcast only on Paramount+.
How We Got Here
Teams were pooled geographically into groups of four for the Third Round, with each team entering the tournament drawn against a team advancing from the Second Round.
The Lights were pre-determined to as hosts, courtesy of finishing in the top four in the USL Championship Western Conference in 2024. Chattanooga Red Wolves SC were determined as the opponent in a live draw conducted by U.S. Soccer on Wednesday.
While the top 16 USL Championship teams – including the Lights – enter the tournament in the Third Round, the bottom eight USL Championship teams began the tournament in the First Round alongside teams from third division leagues USL League One and MLS NEXT Pro as well as amateur teams.
In the Second Round, the Red Wolves beat local rival Chattanooga FC in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw through regulation and overtime.
What’s Next?
In order to lift the U.S. Open Cup trophy, the Lights would have to win six matches including this matchup against Chattanooga.
Following the Third Round, all 16 competing Major League Soccer sides will enter the competition and a new draw will be conducted to determine matchups. This will start the Round of 32, and all competing teams will now be in the tournament.
From there, the single-elimination format continues through the Round of 16, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Final.

What is the U.S. Open Cup?
The Lamar Hunt US Open Cup is the oldest current national cup competition in United States soccer, dating back to the first tournament in 1913. The tournament is open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the United States.
The competition is formatted as a single-elimination knockout tournament. Every game must have a winner, with two 15-minute overtime periods and penalty kicks used to determine a winner if tied after 90 minutes of regulation.
